Sales specialist for camera manufacturers

I was looking for a company that was manufacturing its own components, handling core components for consumer electronics indispensable to daily life, and that was operating globally. I also wanted to take advantage of my English skills. SMK was the company that met all these conditions. After joining the company, I was initially in charge of providing sales support to consumer electronics manufacturers and involved in launching mass production. Now I am in charge of sales to camera manufacturers. I recommend our products to camera manufacturers who are looking to replace existing components (connectors, switches, touch panels, remote controllers, etc.) manufactured by other companies, or who are planning to release new models. It is not easy to reach the negotiation stage if I do not accurately understand or meet a customer's requirements and goals. In order to make meaningful suggestions, I need to be able to intuit what customers want for their next models. The work is difficult, but worthwhile because the payoff of a new contract is huge.

Job Satisfaction

I enjoy controlling the processes involved in winning a contract.

We once won a new contract from a camera manufacturer because we learned that the manufacturer was looking for a new custom-made connector. We emphasized SMK's advantages, which included the ability to reduce the size and increase the strength, superiority in QCD (quality, cost, and delivery), and stable production. We made every effort to meet the customer's requirements based on client feedback on the trial product. We were able to distance ourselves from our competitors. The greatest pleasure in working in the Sales Division is that I can control all the processes involved, from coordinating with other departments such as design, production and quality control to create synergies, to promoting SMK's advantages, to finally securing an order. I fully enjoyed all of this in the aforementioned case. Even after a contract is concluded, we in the Sales Division follow up other processes including design, mass production and delivery of products. Our products are often manufactured abroad, so coordination between the overseas factories and the office in Japan is necessary. I find it is interesting to participate in this global activity.

Challenges and Dreams

To promote SMK's technologies to the world

Since our competitors also continue to promote sales to customers, we must always be proactive in order to remain ascendant. Therefore, I want to earn the trust of customers so that they contact me first when they plan to release new models. These days I am using a single-lens reflex camera. Learning about cameras often gives me ideas that can be useful for my sales activities. My goal is to become an expert who gains the absolute trust of camera manufacturers. I also want to work to increase our market share and maximize sales, and to me this means working globally to promote SMK's superior technologies worldwide.
