SMK Develops Side Contact Terminal
Featuring Industry’s Lowest-Class Profile
SMK has developed a side contact terminal for ground and antenna connections in small mobile devices.
Conventional terminals generally have a spring contact point on the top. In recent years, however, as smartphones and wearable devices have become even smaller and thinner, it is difficult, in some cases, to secure space for contact points in the upward direction of the terminal.
SMK’s new terminal, developed in response to this issue, has a contact point on the side. The industry’s smallest-class low profile and compact design, with a height of 1.0 mm, a width of 0.8 mm, and a length of 3.6 mm, contributes to space-saving inside devices. In addition, it can transmit a current of 1.5A at 5V DC and can also be used for electrical connections.

【Applications】
Ground and antenna connection of smartphones and smart watches,
ground, antenna, and power connection of other small and thin devices.
* Terminals, also called grounding contacts, spring contacts, etc., are used to connect the printed circuit board to the case to prevent EMI noise and transmit antenna signals.
