Smart TV Remote Controls Boast Advanced Functionality with Ultra-Low Power Consumption Enabling “Batteries for Life” Operation

Las Vegas, Nevada, – January 10th, 2013 - SMK Electronics Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of OEM components, remote controls and consumer electronics accessories, and CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE), a global provider of innovative silicon and software solutions, today announced that the companies will demonstrate new Bluetooth® Smart-enabled advanced remote controls this week at International 2013 CES, Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth #20661.

Incorporating CSR’s CSR1001™ and CSR8510™ A10 chip solutions (single- and dual-mode Bluetooth low energy solutions optimized for human interface devices), SMK’s Bluetooth Smart-enabled remote controls incorporate advanced capabilities including pointing gesture recognition, low-latency voice command and device-to-remote “back channel” communications. Additionally, SMK’s Smart-enabled remotes are up to six times more energy efficient than models using earlier Bluetooth technology.

The CSR µEnergy® platform, optimized for remote control and wireless keyboard applications, provides all the components necessary to create a Bluetooth Smart product--with RF, baseband, microcontroller, qualified Bluetooth 4.0 stack, keypad scanning hardware and customer application running on a single CSR1001™ chip.
With Bluetooth 4.0 low energy technology, Smart devices can operate for years on a single set of batteries. The CSR µEnergy platform for Bluetooth Smart uses the recently adopted HID Over GATT Profile (HOGP) to enable TV and set-top box control functions without compromising ease-of use and signal responsiveness. HOGP also enables communications between a Bluetooth Smart and a host device, such as that between a remote control and a Smart TV, set-top box or tablet.
