PB-4E Series, a New Product with0.4 mm Pitch, Industry’s Lowest Profile Board-to-Board Connector with Stacking Height of 0.5 mm developed 

 SMK Corporation has developed the PB-4E series, the industry’s lowest 0.4 mm pitch board-to-board connector, for small portable devices such as mobile phones.
Given trends in recent years toward ever-smaller and more powerful portable devices such as mobile phones and PDAs, such devices have incorporated ever-greater numbers of circuits, generating demand for internal connectors with lower profiles, smaller size, and higher-density mountability. Many of these devices incorporate 0.4 mm pitch board-to-board connectors, and demand is growing for a range of heights for various applications.
With a 0.5 mm mating height for the socket and plug, a roughly 38% reduction from previous SMK products, this product achieves the industry’s lowest profile. Its space-reducing and low-profile design will contribute to further reductions in device dimensions, including thickness. Featuring a low-profile design with a mating height of just 0.5 mm, this new product uses a metal locking system to achieve high mating-retention force.
In addition, its hold-down and a unique locking structure in its contacts increase mating force and generate a click to confirm engagement and disengagement.
