0.5 mm spacing connector for shielded FPC, EF-5D series,
of high speed transmission performance, EMC adaptation and
easier operability

We are pleased to announce the development and commencement of marketing of 0.5 mm spacing connector for shielded FPC, EF-5D series, of high speed transmission performance. Their particulars are outlined below.

As image quality and performance of digital home appliances such as flat panel displays (LCDs and PDPs) are improved, transmission speed of signals has become faster and internal connectors are required to meet such high speed transmission rates.

These new products are 0.5 mm spacing connector for shielded FPC with FPC/FFC used for connection for high speed signals. It is capable of high speed serial transmission including LVDS and TMDS (HDMI) with matching impedance of 100Ω.

Double-surfaced FPCs can be used for separation of the signal layer from the GND layer, and the latter can be strengthened. Measures are taken for EMC by keeping the FPC layers in contact with the connector where our original double-surface contact structure (patent pending) is employed. The FPCs structured to reinforce GND without through holes allows the signal side to be totally free for pin assignment.

Also, our exclusive front flip locking structure (patent pending) ensures easier operability (simple but positive FPC connection with a light force due to the rotating cover) and stable contact (freedom from load while an FPC is locked). Mechanisms for prevention of disconnection, and also for top-for-bottom reversal insertion of an FPC are provided.

The current repertoire features a right angle and vertical types. Addition of products with greater numbers of pins are planned.
