We are pleased to announce the development, and commencement of marketing, of a 3.5 mm 3-pole jack (low profile type) with a vertical switch, particulars of which are outlined below.

A trend toward enjoyment of music recorded in portable audio devices in cars is going on. For this, connection of portable audio devices to car audio equipment has been made possible by using a 3.5 mm dia. jack. Need for lower and smaller configurations is strong particularly in places where height restrictions are very strict, such as detachable front panels of car audio equipment for the overseas market.

This new product is designed to be a low 10 mm in height above the surface of PWBs to accommodate this market need (about 42% reduction from our previous equivalent products). The 10-mm profile of this product is the industry's shortest for 3.5 mm jacks with an independent switch and will be found to be most suitable for applications where thinness and smallness are seriously sought.

The independent switch circuit provided enables detection of plug insertion. Further, contact reliability is enhanced by the employment of a make-switch design by the use of a leaf spring which has a self-cleaning effect, and of a 2-contact structure with the switch contact.
